Coaches Tim Bossy and Bill Mullins

July 12, 2011

LOMBARD, IL – In a letter to former players and their families Coach Mullins has announced that 2011 was his final season as head coach of the Montini RFC. In the same letter he also announced it was ass't coach Bossy's last season as well. Both coaches will continue on in limited roles, looking to make the transition to a new staff as smooth as possible.

Coach Mullins and Bossy led the Montini RFC to two state second-place finishes and one third-place finish over their seven year tenure. The closest to winning a state championship was in 2009 when the Broncos nearly won the match in the final seconds of play against Waubonsie Valley. Over the last seven years coach Mullins and Bossy have laid a strong foundation for future growth and success of the club. Both coaches will continue to support and mentor the future coaching staff.

THE LETTER

I just wanted to let all the former players and their parents know that the 2011 season was my last as head coach of the Montini Rugby Team. Work and travel requirements have made it necessary for me to step down from the best job I've ever had. I truly loved every minute and know I have been blessed to work with the best kids, parents and families at the school. My plan is to remain active with the team, and I really expect to make almost all the practices and games in the future.

At the same time, Tim Bossy will be stepping down as assistant coach. For the past five years, Tim has been coaching several hockey teams, and has now been asked to increase his coaching presence at Fenwick where his son goes to school. Tim also plans to remain active with the rugby team however.

As you may know, the plan is to have our indoor and most of our outdoor practices at Montini next year after the new artificial turf field is completed. This should give the team the visibility it so needs to attract athletes who otherwise may be barely aware of our existence. It also should eliminate the weather factor that causes us to cancel so many practices each year.

I will be helping Athletic Director Bob Landi and Jim Segredo in finding a new head coach for Montini's team. If you are aware of anyone who might fit our team's needs and culture, please let me know, and I will pass the information along to the school. I will also be looking toward the Illinois rugby community for leads. Naturally, I will provide any assistance I can to the new coach in order to make the transition a smooth one.

Tim and I are extremely grateful to the school for everything they have done for our team and our boys. Jim Segredo, Don Riley, Linda Green and now Bob Landi have ALWAYS provided us with any assistance or resources that we asked for. They knew what we were trying to accomplish and let us run the program our way. We thank them for their trust.

Most importantly, I want to thank my wife Linda. If you were at all active on this team, you know that her contribution was as large as anyone's. No game or post-game social could have been successful without her work and effort.

I can't wait till next season, and am eager to hear suggestions regarding our successors or the future of the team.

Thank you again.

Bill
